MEDIA CENTER VOLUNTEERS

Parents once again have the opportunity to volunteer at the school's Media Center!  Our fantastic Media Specialist, Ms. Park, runs a busy program and can use our help in a number of ways.  Volunteers may come help while their child's class is at the Media Center, see the schedule here (please note A and B weeks), or during the Open Checkout session scheduled every Tuesday from 9:10-10:00am.  Ms. Park is also seeking volunteers to help run a Lunchtime Book Club for students to share thoughts on books they are currently reading, which would be organized by grade.  If you are interested in helping in any of these cases, or at any other point in the week, please email Claire Heffez at claire.hazard@gmail.com, and Amie Park at Amie_Schwartz@mcpsmd.org so that they may put you on the schedule.

GET READY FOR OUR OCTOBER FOOD DRIVE!

We are very happy to announce that BHES will participate in Manna Food Center's Kids Helping Kids (KHK) campaign during the month of October. KHK mobilizes Montgomery County schools to raise food and funds for their hungry peers across the county. Participation in this program teaches children valuable lessons about hunger, engages them in giving, and shows them that they have the power to make a difference in their community.

BHES will have both an in-kind food drive from October 3-17 as well as a virtual food drive during the entire month of October.

In-kind donations of most-needed items include shelf-stable grains, fruits and vegetables, proteins, and other healthy items. We will send out more details soon.

To volunteer for this effort and for more information, contact Veronica Velez-Burgess vvelezburgess@yahoo.com

Thank you for joining this county-wide effort to fight hunger!

OCTOBER 11th GENERAL PTA MEETING

Please mark your calendars for the first general PTA meeting of the year, which will take place on Tuesday, October 11th at 7:30pm. In addition to hearing from BHES school administration and your PTA Board, we are pleased to announce that speakers from Be SMART will join us to discuss the importance of secure gun storage to protect our children and communities.
