BHES PTA FALL BOOK FAIR! (NOV 2-6)

Readers get ready! The BHES PTA Book Fair is happening from November 2-6. Come shop for books and take part in the daily contests and activities! Students and parents may come to the library and shop daily from 9:00am - 3:00pmTeachers will be bringing students to the fair as a class. Parents may join their students during their class shopping time! See the schedule for your teacher's time slot. Sign-in at the front office before heading to the media center to meet your student.

Click here to find the schedule of when classes will be visiting the Book Fair.

Parents and students can come shop outside of school hours on Monday, November 6 from 6-8 PM.

Want to help out with the fair?

  • Volunteer: We're seeking volunteer parents to help staff the fair for set-up, class visits, and pack-up. Volunteers must complete the child abuse and neglect training and show proof of vaccination. Click here to volunteer:

    https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080F4CABAC2AA4FA7-44516966-bhes?useFullSite=true#
  • Purchase Books: The easiest way to help is to purchase books during the classroom book fair visits. Scholastic rewards a generous percentage of our sales back to us as Scholastic Dollars, which are used to purchase books for our media center and classrooms. More than one of our recent in-person fairs provided over $5000 worth of books to our school, all purchased with our rewards!

  • Purchase books for Teachers: Another way to help is to purchase books for classroom libraries. Books chosen by our teachers will be available for purchase at the fair.

Set up an eWallet: eWallet is an easy way to send your child to the fair with money in an online account where it can't be lost. Visit https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/content/fairs/how-ewallet-works.html?fairId=5417293 to set up an eWallet for your child before their class visits, or to check or reload the balance on an existing eWallet. Please note that funds added to an eWallet that aren't used will be available for use at Scholastic.com and/or at a later BHES PTA Book Fair but will not be refunded.

SCIENCE FAIR DEADLINE EXTENDED! REGISTER SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS BY NOVEMBER 2!

Remember, there’s no school on Nov 1, so that’s a great day to work on your Science Fair projects!

The BHES Science Fair will be held on Thursday, November 9! Science Fair project presentations will occur in 2 sessions:

6:30-7:15pm for students in grades K-2

7:30-8:15pm for students in grades 3-5

How to participate:

1) Check out ScienceBuddies.org for project ideas by grade level and topics of interest.

2) Register your science fair project by November 2.

3) Apply the scientific method while you do your project.

4) Summarize your project on a tri-fold poster board.  Describe all aspects of the scientific method on your poster, including the Research Question, Background, Hypothesis, Materials & Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

5) Practice telling people about your project.

6) Present your project at the Science Fair on November 9!

We need judges! No scientific expertise needed, just a willingness to talk to students about their projects! If you're interested in volunteering as a judge for the Science Fair, please email Jen Villani at jenvillani@gmail.com or Colleen Fahey at cefahey@yahoo.com

UPDATE FROM AFRICAN FOLKTALE ASSEMBLY

On Wednesday Oct 11th, our students enjoyed Ada Ari’s immersive program, African Storytelling Reimagined, in the first Cultural Arts Assembly of the school year. Ada is an award-winning children’s author, captivating storyteller, and diversity champion.

Ada shared a Ghanaian folktale, bringing it to life through movement, artifacts, and geography lessons. Students participated in an interactive reading of The Spider’s Long Legs, danced the Azonto, played instruments, and got to try on kente cloth and krobo beads. Those that pre-ordered received signed copies of Ada’s books. The DEI Committee has donated six copies to the BHES media center, so be sure to check those out!

Anyone interested in Ada’s folktales can learn more and order books here: https://www.ada-ari.com/african-folktales
