INTERNATIONAL DAY OF TOLERANCE: RESPECT, APPRECIATION, AND ACCEPTANCE (NOV 16)

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the PTA would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate International Day of Tolerance, which is observed November 16. We encourage you to engage in conversations with your children about inclusion and belonging more broadly, but with a specific focus this month on respecting, appreciating, and accepting the diversity of the world around us.

The United Nations adopted the International Day of Tolerance in 1996 in the wake of cultural and racial conflicts around the globe. There is special significance to raising awareness of the UN’s Principles of Tolerance in 2023 as communities near and far continue to experience discrimination and hatred. There are many ways that families can learn and practice tolerance together.

SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK FOR PHASE 2 OF THE MCPS SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR

As MCPS continues to develop the 2024–2025 school year calendar, the district is seeking additional feedback on two draft calendars from students, staff, families and community members. This feedback, survey #2, represents the second phase in the development process to further the educational interests and operational needs of the district (MCPS Policy IDA, School Year Calendar).

WARM CLOTHING DRIVE

The PTA Community Service Committee works closely with Weller Road Elementary School to identify ways to support our Title 1 Sister school. Just like last year, Weller Road expressed a need for warm clothing donations. It's time to declutter your closet and donate to a great cause!

Warm Clothing Drive - November 6th - 30th

  • We accept new and gently used donations. All clothes should be clean and in good condition.
  • Sweatshirts, hoodies, long- sleeve shirts, leggings, sweatpants, brand new socks, and brand new underwear are particularly needed.
  • All sizes are accepted, including adult sizes.
  • Please drop off donations in water-proof bags in bins/boxes at the front entrance of BHES

BRING US YOUR PLASTIC BAGS AND FILM FOR THE TREX RECYCLING CHALLENGE!

Please send in your plastic bags and plastic film for the TREX recycling challenge! Schools collect plastic film (bags and other plastic film), weigh them, and report the weight monthly on the program website.

The challenge runs from September through April and any participating school that collects at least 1,000 pounds of plastic film during a 12-month period qualifies to receive a composite bench. We are off to a good start at 100 pounds as of the end of October so keep the plastic film coming in!

WHALE MART (DEC 1, 8:30AM-9:00AM, BHES BLACKTOP)

Mark your calendar and don't miss Whalemart on Friday, December 1. Meet us on the blacktop from 8:30 to 9 am. Great stuff ranging from 1-5 dollars. All proceeds go toward the PTA so we can have fun events for kids, families and grownups!! Don't miss it!
