SUBJECT: Weekly Whale - Feb 22, 2026

SPOUT OUTS!

Spout out to our Heritage Night Committee - Cynthia Platou, Sarah Zetterli, Kanako Okubu, and Robert Daguillard - and our teachers and staff, and to all of the familieswho hosted tables for a wonderful evening celebrating cultures from around the world and our BHES community! Thanks to all of the wonderful artists who provided the fantastic performances!

Thanks to Katherine Melgarejo and Jess Jay, the Teacher Appreciation Committee, for organizing a staff lunch this past week to celebrate our wonderful BHES teachers and staff!

MCPS has announced tomorrow (February 23) as a snow closure.

MCPS has also announced more changes to this year's school calendar to make up the instructional days we lost with the last storm and tomorrow's snow closure. March 20 will be a non-instructional day (as originally planned). MCPS is adding Thurs, June 18, Mon, June 22, and Weds, June 24 as full days, and is adding early release days on Thurs, June 25 and Fri, June 26 (so June 26 is now the last day of school).

The schedule may change again - we'll be sure to send an update if and when there is one! In the meantime, may every whale be safe and warm.

THE PTA IS HERE FOR YOU

The BHES PTA is committed to promoting an enriching and supportive climate where all members of the BHES community feel safe, seen, and respected. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee works to advance this goal through educational resources, community conversations, in-school programming, and collaboration with school and county staff. Our focus this year is the Speak Up Strategies to empower our community, students and adults alike, to be upstanders in the face of hate and bias.

The PTA's DEI Committee welcomes input from all members of our community about how we collectively work to prevent and respond to hate-bias incidents within our community. If you are interested in sharing feedback, or joining the DEI Committee, please contact DEI Committee Co-Chairs Nausheen Noor and Kathleen Foster at klubey@gmail.com
