Upcoming MCPS School Consolidation & Boundary Study- K-2 Parent Engagement Needed!

MCPS is beginning a planning process related to elementary and middle school facilities planning and school boundaries, and how schools across the county are being used.

The process will begin with a review of enrollment and school capacity, including consideration of possible elementary and middle school closures or consolidations. A countywide elementary school boundary study will follow next school year.

For those interested in learning more, community engagement sessions will also take place from October 19 through December 10, with both virtual and in-person options. You can find the full schedule here.

No recommendations have been made at this time on closures or boundary changes in the Whitman cluster. But these are important opportunities for our community to begin gathering information about the process.

Interested in playing a bigger role in supporting BHES in the boundary study process? The BHES PTA is putting together a Boundary Committee and we welcome participation and engagement, particularly from parents and caregivers of K-2 students who are most likely to be impacted by any future changes. This committee will coordinate communication and advocacy related to the boundary study. Please sign up here if you are interested in leading or joining this committee.

Support the BHES Food Drive for Weller Road Elementary!

The Community Service Committee is holding a food drive October 8–17 to support our sister school, Weller Road Elementary. Weller Road is a Title I school with an onsite food pantry that serves students and their families in need.

We invite all BHES families to participate by donating canned and non-perishable food items. Donation bins will be placed outside the front entrance of BHES throughout the food drive. You can send donations with your children or drop them off directly in the bins.

Let’s come together as a community to help our friends at Weller Road! Your generosity can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these students and their families.

Thank you for your support!
