AFTER SCHOOL ONSITE COORDINATOR NEEDED (PAID)

Bradley Hills Elementary School (BHES) PTA is still working to identify an onsite coordinator for our enrichment program, which runs in three sessions throughout the year. The upcoming Fall session will be October 18 - December 16 (Tuesdays-Fridays) followed by Winter and Spring sessions.

The onsite coordinator is a paid position and would oversee the enrichment programs when classes are in session, but the coordinator is not responsible for getting students to the classroom. The primary responsibilities at our school include: serving as the main programmatic point of contact; taking student attendance; confirming teacher arrivals; and (schedule permitting) managing dismissal of students.

If the onsite coordinator is not already at BHES, we would ask them to arrive by 3:15pm and stay until 4:45pm. Anyone interested in the onsite position does not need to commit to a full year, or commit to every weekday. Anyone interested in this position who can only stay until 4pm should contact us as well. The compensation range for the position is $20-$36/hour.

Please contact Laurel Keating, the PTA after school enrichment volunteer coordinator if you are interested (Laurel.Keating@gmail.com).

MEDIA CENTER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Parents once again have the opportunity to volunteer at the school's Media Center! Our fantastic Media Specialist, Ms. Park, runs a busy program and can use your help in a number of ways.  Volunteers may come help while their child's class is at the Media Center, see the schedule here (please note A and B weeks), or during the Open Checkout session scheduled every Tuesday from 9:10-10:00am.

Ms. Park is also seeking volunteers to help run a Lunchtime Book Club for students to share thoughts on books they are currently reading, which would be organized by grade. If you are interested in helping in any of these cases, or at any other point in the week, please email Claire Heffez at claire.hazard@gmail.com, and Amie Park at Amie_Schwartz@mcpsmd.org so that they may put you on the schedule.

OCTOBER FOOD DRIVE!

BHES is participating in Manna Food Center's Kids Helping Kids (KHK) campaign in October. KHK mobilizes Montgomery County schools to raise food and funds for their hungry peers across the county. Participation in this program teaches children valuable lessons about hunger, engages them in giving, and shows them that they have the power to make a difference in their community.

BHES is having both an in-kind food drive from October 1-17 as well as a virtual food drive during the entire month of October.

Virtual food drive - Please visit our school page to make online donations: https://secure. qgiv.com/event/khk22/team/907818/

Please share this page with anyone you think may want to support our cause.

In-kind donations can be dropped off at Manna collection boxes located in the front foyer of BHES or at the entrance of 5708 Glenwood Road.

GET READY FOR THE BHES BOOK FAIR

The BHES PTA Book Fair is happening from Oct 31 - Nov 4. This fair's theme is "Bolder Stronger Prouder Reader". We have contests and fun activities planned to celebrate!  This year, we are allowing shopping to be done in-person by students and by parents daily from 9:15AM - 2:30PM.

Parents can come shop outside of school hours on Tuesday Nov 1 from 6-8 PM.

Want to help out with the fair?

  • Volunteer: We're seeking volunteer parents to help staff the fair for set-up, class visits, and pack-up.  Volunteers must complete the child abuse and neglect training and show proof of vaccination. Click here to volunteer: 2022 SIGN UP!

  • Purchase Books: The easiest way to help is to purchase books during the classroom book fair visits.  Scholastic rewards a generous percentage of our sales back to us as Scholastic Dollars, which are used to purchase books for our media center and classrooms.  More than one of our recent in-person fairs provided over $5000 worth of books, each, to our school, purchased with our rewards!

  • Purchase books for Teachers: Another way to help is to purchase books for classroom libraries. Books chosen by our teachers will be available for purchase at the fair!

Set up an eWallet: eWallet is an easy way to send your child to the fair with money in an online account, where it can't be lost.  Please visit our fair homepage to set up an eWallet for your child before their class visits, or to check or reload the balance on an existing eWallet.  Please note that funds added to an eWallet that aren't used will be available for use at Scholastic.com and/or at a later BHES PTA Book Fair, but will not be refunded.

*A note on online purchases: You can also support the school by shopping online from https://www.scholastic.com/bf/bhessbf.
