LOST AND FOUND

Parents: The BHES Lost & Found is overflowing with jackets and water bottles! Please check the Lost & Found when you are at school for your Parent-Teacher Conference (or end of day pick up, morning drop off, or any other time!). The Lost & Found is located in the Multi-Purpose Room. Thank you!

BHES HONORS NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

November is Native American Heritage Month! During the month of November, let’s honor, recognize, and acknowledge the Indigenous Peoples who continue to thrive in our country. 

Indigenous Peoples are still with us! Too often, in school and popular media, children learn that Native Americans are people from the past, part of history, almost ‘extinct’. This is especially true around the time of Thanksgiving. Contrary to these unfortunate messages, Native peoples are still alive and thriving, including in Maryland! Read more...

WHAT TIME IS IT? SCIENCE FAIR TIME!

Join us on Thursday, December 15 for the BHES Science Fair. Science fair project presentations will occur in 2 sessions:

    6:30-7:15pm for students in grades K-2  

    7:30-8:15pm for students in grades 3-5

How to participate:

1) Check out ScienceBuddies.org for project ideas by grade level and topics of interest.

2)Register your science fair project.

3) Apply the scientific method while you do your project.

4) Summarize your project on a tri-fold poster board.  Describe the Research Question, Background, Hypothesis, Materials & Methods, Results, and Conclusion.  

5) Practice telling people about your project.

6) Present your project at the Science Fair on Dec. 15.

GREEN TEAM UPDATES 

Trex: Trex is off to a great start; we have collected 30 pounds in the first week! Keep sending in your plastic bags and other plastic film for the Trex plastic film recycling challenge.

Compost Kudos: We had another great month in composting. Students were able to divert 635 lbs of food from landfills and incinerators in October. See report below for how this translates to offset equivalents.
